Current Campaign

ReCover Nepal

Through our current ReCover Nepal program we are helping the families of Dhamku Village in rural Solukhumbu, Nepal to rebuild their homes and lives post earthquake. Solukhumbu, lies in a very remote mountainous region which creates barriers to its resident subsistence farmers’ ability to provide safe shelter for themselves. This is where our partnership becomes crucial to moving forward. Through our program families are gaining the construction training to build their homes with earthquake resistant techniques. They gain access to materials and funding that would otherwise be out of reach. Together in this partnership the village is coming to life again as people move from focusing on maintaining make-shift bamboo and tarp shelters to prospering in their new and beautiful homes.

Since April 2015 we've managed to rebuild 2/3rds of the village region.  With continued support from our donor base, we are dedicated to helping every family that lost their home in Dhamku build their lives back and find safety again. We hope to see all families back indoors very soon.

Project Costs

Our partnership with each family in our program, provides earthquake-resistant construction training and home design options so that families know where to begin and have the skills to do so. We provide the materials that are otherwise unattainable due to cost and difficulty in acquiring. And we provide guidance and support in getting each home built from beginning to end. Each family commits their labor and local/reclaimed materials, and together we build beautiful safe homes.

By combining our resources we are able to achieve building a home with the average applicant for $1,250 USD. For families suffering even more severe losses, such as single mothers and widows who simply do not have the time to split between child-care, farming and building a home, we supply the additional resources and are able to build their new home for $2,500 USD.
