Advisory Board Member

NIVAS has been working in Nepal since 2013 assisting multiple village districts to rebuild post-earthquake, and focusing on single-family housing for single mothers.  To date, our team in Nepal our small group of directors have been able to achieve great success building homes for over 350 people on a very minimal budget. Now we need assistance expanding our capacity and our reach.

We are seeking a new volunteer advisory board member. We currently have members who are experts in M&E, market-based interventions, energy and environment, engineering, and nonprofit operations. We are seeking professionals with deep experience in housing or finance in the developing country context.

Our advisory board meets quarterly to outline our current successes and gaps and to refine our service model. As an advisory board member, expertise is the critical value-addition.  Our management board covers all fundraising efforts, however knowledge of the grant funding is helpful. We are seeking an individual with a combination of the following qualifications: 6+ years experience in development practice in housing, gender equity, finance, grant funding, trafficking in persons, or a related field; collaborative attitude; positive vision of small nonprofits’ ability to create transformative change.

This is a unique opportunity to help a ‘start-up’ organization grow into an impactful entity in the development sphere.

Management Board Member

Nivas is seeking a new volunteer board member to add to our all-volunteer Management Board of Directors. We help people living in extreme poverty find dignity, strength, and security through the process of becoming homeowners. So far with our team in Nepal and our small group of directors we’ve been able to achieve great success housing over 350 people on a small budget. We’re at just the right moment to grow our capacity and expand our reach, but we need help getting there.

We are seeking an individual with a combination of the following qualifications: a love for Nepal, South Asia, justice or equitable access to housing; collaborative attitude; passion for fundraising; expertise in marketing, accounting, graphic design, financial management or other highly useful skill; willingness to participate.  Our Management Board meets once per month, where we outline our current progress and what we need to do to keep our work moving forward. We don’t have a large volunteer base, so much of the work is achieved by our board members or acting chairs that the board appoints. Each board member commits to approximately 10 volunteer hours per month and a bit more during special circumstances (events, grant deadlines, etc).

Some perks: Boost your resume with great volunteer experience and your photo and bio on our website. Boost your inner-self by knowing that you are doing truly good work with an organization that is entirely focused on its recipients.
